Welcome to the Sports Awards 2025!
We are so excited for our annual Sports Ball this year, and we need your help nominating some exceptional students who have contributed greatly to their club, their fellow peers and JMSU in general, as well as colours nominations.

Nominations for Sport Member, Members Choice and coach/volunteer of the year close Friday 28th February (Midday). Sport Member and Members Choice will be shortlisted and open to voting from 3rd March - 17th March (Midday).
All Winners will be announced on the night.
Award categories
Member's Choice
Awarded to the club who has made a difference across all team LJMU sports clubs experience through guidance, inspiration and collaboration.
Sports are nominated by other sports; it’s then shortlisted by the Sports Panel and goes out to member vote. The winner has been nominated and voted by Team LJMU club members.
Sports Member of the Year
This is awarded to the person who has shown the most commitment and enthusiasm to their club for Team LJMU this year, making an outstanding contribution to Sports.
Sports are nominated by other sports; it’s then shortlisted by the Sports Panel and goes out to member vote. The winner has been nominated and voted by Team LJMU club members.
Volunteer/Coach of the Year
This is awarded to a coach/volunteer who has demonstrated a significant contribution to the club and its teams.
Individuals are nominated by their clubs with evidence, the winner is then chosen by the Sports Panel.
Inclusion Award
Inclusion Award is awarded to the sports club who have made the most effort to remove barriers to inclusion and engage with the full diversity of the student body.
Best New Sport
This award will go to a club affiliated in the last 12 months who have made a great start to their first year as a group!
This could mean a great increase in membership, success in competitions, and going the extra mile to promote and grow the sport/club.
Varsity Team of the Year
Varsity Team of the Year is awarded to a Varsity team/club who delivered a strong performance and captured the spirit of the games through gamesmanship, support and embracing Team LJMU!
Rising Star of the Year
This Award celebrates the remarkable growth and improvement of a sports club, recognising significant progression in the last academic year.
Special Recognition
Special Recognition Award is awarded to a member/sport that has gone the extra mile to make an impact whether through an increase in participation, sporting performance, charity work or community engagement.
VP Activities Award
The nominee’s and winner of this award will be announced on the night of the event, adding an element of anticipation and excitement to the celebration. Stay tuned to witness who will be honoured with this prestigious recognition.
BUCS Team of the Year
The BUCS Team of the Year is awarded to the BUCS Team who has competed exceptionally in their competition and represented the University to a high standard.
Non-BUCS Team of the Year
Non-BUCS Team of the year award is awarded to the Non-BUCS Team who has competed exceptionally in their competition and represented the University to a high standard.
Social Media Star of the Year
This award recognises a club or individual who has shone brightly across digital platforms, captivating audiences with their engaging content, creativity and impact – using social media to inspire inform and entertain, while fostering connections and building communities.
Club of the Year
This award recognises the outstanding achievement and overall excellence of a student led club – acknowledging their exceptional engagement, meaningful community outreach & charity work, embodying JMSU’s passion for inclusion & participation and contribution to enhancing the student experience.
Colours
It's the responsibility of the club committee to nominate final year students from their club for full/half colours.
All nominations are sent to the panel comprised of JMSU's elected Student Officers, staff and students. Nominations are reviewed and are decided on the quality of the nominations, not the quantity of the nominations received for a student group.
What are colours? Your members recognition of your service to SU and Team LJMU Sport.
Full Colours are given to:
- Student graduating this academic year
- Student who has been part of their sports team for full 3 years of University OR If Student has been part of a committee at any point.
Half Colours are given to:
- Student graduating this academic year
- Student who has been part of the spots club for 2 years.
